People don't take kindly to being attacked, especially if those people defend most of your colonies from being assaulted by pirates and you peg them anyway. So as revenge for your stupid dedication your crew is slaughtered and you're left on an island to rot, unless you use your one shot to speed up the process. Sorry for the download bar and stuff. My computer is stupid and either downloads only a few mods or a bunch that I thought I had uninstalled whenever i start up Garry's mod so yah it sucks.
